Tanglewood at Cannock

Tanglewood delivers it’s programmes in association with the Forestry Commission at Birches Valley Forest Centre on Cannock Chase an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Birches Valley is an idyllic place to visit with its quiet miles of rolling hills, purple heather and unspoilt miles of forest tracks.

Education at Cannock

We have access to a dedicated outdoor learning area adjacent to the classrooms. This area is for the exclusive use of visitors on an education programme and has a rustic log seating area with a fire pit, picnic benches as well as a yurt to provide some protection from the rain. Many of our activities will take place in this area as well as utilising the many trails and habitats in the forest.

Facilities at Cannock
Car and coach parking

Please enter the main car park entrance from Birches Valley Road. Follow the one-way system round the main visitor car park until you are in the large open car park near Go Ape. You can park and unload here. For schools taking part in a Tanglewood programme there is no additional charge for your coach parking.

When your group arrives at the forest, a member of Tanglewood staff will greet your group in the car park and walk you round to the classroom. If the member of staff has not arrived please telephone your Tanglewood instructor or report to the forestry commission main reception, to make us aware that your group has arrived.

Classroom – The Hideaway

All school groups will automatically have a classroom booked as part of their visit. We aim to be outdoor as much as possible but in poor weather we can deliver games and activities inside the classroom as well as eat lunch. The classrooms have toilets and a fully equipped kitchen allowing us to provide teas and coffees for our adult visitors.

Woodland Play Area

At the end of your visit with us why not let your children burn off any remaining energy by visiting the wonderful woodland play area adjacent to the car park.
